Production area
Grapes for this village appellation from the Côtes de Nuits are harvested within the delimited areas of the village of Vougeot that are classified as “Grand Cru”, the highest distinction for Burgundy appellations. Grands Crus wines come from the finest parcels in their commune and only represent 1% of production in Burgundy. The Clos de Vougeot vineyard surrounds the Château du Clos de Vougeot, a former monastery and a historic monument. The vineyard, which exclusively produces red wines, covers a surface area of 50 hectares and is divided among 85 different owners.
Origins
Burgundy’s soils are clay-limestone based, but variations between villages can have significant influence on the characteristics of the wines. This is why careful selection is essential for the elaboration of the finest wines.
